Portal Speakeasy is a hidden bar designed to be an immersive and mysterious experience. Inspired by classic speakeasies and secret entrances, the branding needed to capture a sense of exclusivity, sophistication, and intrigue—as if stepping through a portal into another world.

Problem Statement

A speakeasy thrives on secrecy and allure, and Portal Speakeasy needed a brand identity that reflected this concept. The challenge was to create a visual identity that hinted at exclusivity and mystery while maintaining a clean and modern aesthetic.

Design Process

Typography & Logo Design

For the logo, I selected a tall, sans-serif typeface that exudes mystery and sophistication. The elongated letterforms create a sense of elegance and intrigue, reinforcing the hidden, exclusive nature of the speakeasy.

I designed a simple yet powerful logo mark that subtly hints at a portal, without being overly literal. The clean, modern design ensures the branding remains timeless and versatile across different applications.

Color Palette

The client chose the color palette, so my role was to ensure the typography and logo elements complemented the selected tones. The moody hues enhance the mysterious and intimate atmosphere of the brand, creating a cohesive look and feel.

Challenges & Solutions

1. Working Within a Pre-Selected Color Palette

Since the colors were already chosen, my challenge was to make them work seamlessly within the branding. By pairing the moody color scheme with a strong, minimal sans-serif font, I ensured the overall identity still felt intentional and cohesive.

2. Balancing Minimalism with Mystery

The branding needed to feel exclusive without being overly designed. By using a simple, tall sans-serif font and a restrained visual approach, I created an identity that feels intriguing yet understated—drawing people in without revealing too much.
